2011 is the year of apes in the European zoos, so Sosto Zoo also focused on these special and endangered animals in this season.
Visitors could be taken pictures with life-sized ape figure in our zoo, respectively could take part in feeding programs and could listen to interesting pieces of information about them.
Several volunteers helped in the environment enrichment on our voluntary day. We also wanted to show our animals from an other point of view, thus a talent graphic artist student called Soós Noémi drew the portraits of our apes that can be found right next to the enclosures, together with basic information of the animals.
Much stronger connection can evolve between the visitors and the animals due to the fact that they could identify the individuals with the help of the drawings.
Our graphics became so popular that we were requested to put those also on our website: http://sostozoo.hu/index.php?p=graphics
Besides the graphics, animated drawings were also created for young children, while the elders could compare their skill with the monkeys’ (one) in a playful competition.
Knowledge competition was organized for families: ape pictures (with questions on the back) were hidden near the enclosures. When the visitors found them and answered the questions correctly, they won hand-painted stones with the portraits of our apes.
